I often work in the medium of charcoal. For me, it is very similar to painting. The way you build up tones, blocking in large areas of light and dark, and then refining the details. I like using my hands, and paint brushes, to move the charcoal around the paper. I often make use of a white charcoal to enhance the highlights, which is the best part as it is by doing this that the animal comes alive to me.
